The Shell Eco-marathon is an educational platform that encourages innovation, reinforces conservation and fosters the development of leading technology for greater energy efficiency. This competition is held by Shell, an oil company, and is intended for a students team.
The principle of the Shell Eco-marathon is simple: to design and build the world’s most fuel-efficient vehicle – and produce the fewest emissions. Teams can enter two main categories:
- Futuristic prototypes – which are streamlined vehicles where the primary design consideration is reducing drag and maximizing efficiency
- Urban Concept vehicles – which are built to more conventional 4-wheel roadworthy criteria, designed to meet the needs of today’s drivers in a more realistic city/urban environment.
Either conventional fuels (such as diesel, gasoline and LPG), or alternative fuels (such as solar, electric, hydrogen, bio-fuels and GTL) can be used to power vehicles. The goal of the project is not to break speed records or be the first to finish; it is to consume as little fuel as possible over a set distance.
The aim of the Shell Eco-marathon is to inspire young designers and engineers from around the world to develop new approaches of sustainable mobility. Otherwise, the purpose is to encourage and foster innovation and ideas about fuel-efficiency and the future of modern transport.
Shell Eco-Marathon has been held several times in Europe (since 1985) and America (since 2007). But Shell Eco-Marathon will be held for the first time in Asia, at 8-10 July 2010 in Sepang International Circuit, located in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Mesin ITS Team is one of the team that will participate Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2010. The International competition Shell Eco-Marathon is a big and chalenging competition which held by Shell – one of the biggest oil company in the world now—and is intended for a students from high school and collegee, to design and create a vehicle that probably could be a solution in the future. That solution is how to build a vehicle that can save a fuel efficiently.
This competition was held for several times in Europe and America, but for Asia is accomplished for the first time on July 2010, in Kuala Lumpur, Malasyia. Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) , one of the biggest institute in Indonesia have the right to send its team to follow Shell Eco Marathon Asia, and thats us! We all so excited to become a part of the biggest international technology event like this, and we really working hard to create the vehicle that probably can be the most inovative and efficient vehicle in the world (hopefully…).
Shell Eco-Marathon Asia can be a great breakthrough in technology world, where the young generation play a role and have participate to try hard to create a vehicle that economist, efficient, and also green and clean technology. And every person in our team is the young generation that don’t want to just sitting comfortly as a spectator in this event, but we want to be the young generation that care enough to save the world and environment, and of course the global energy crisis. Now, we are in progress to create that vehicle.
